Branko Ivankovic – The New Oman National Team Boss

Branko Ivankovic

Branko Ivankovic, the former IR Iran national team manager has just been named as being the brand new Oman head coach. The announcement was made by the OFA (Oman Football Association). The news instantly increased the odds on asiabet8888.com and other sites for results coming to Oman in the near future.

Ivankovic, originally from Croatia, served between 2002 and 2006 as Team Melli’s head coach. This helped the nation to qualify for the FIFA World Cup (2006 edition). Then, he guided the under-23 Iran team to win the gold metal during the Asian Games in Busan, held in 2002.

The OFA made the official announcement, saying that the association reached a clear agreement with Branko Ivankovic. He will be responsible to oversee the senior national team’s training. This means Ivankovic replaces Erwin Koeman, the Dutch tactician that was fired because of the fac that Oman went out of the Arabian Gulf Cup group stages. This happened during December 2019.

When talking about club football, Brank Ivankovic worked as head coach for Persepolis FC. This happened between the years 2015 and 2019. During his tenure then, the team managed to win 4 titles in the Persian Gulf Pro League. Then, the team also won 3 Iranian Super Cups and 1 Hafzi Cup. His guidance also led the company to the AFC Champions League final in 2018. Unfortunately, the team lost to Kashima Antlers FC on aggregate with a score of 2-0.

In 2019, the coach moved to the Saudi Professional League where he was responsible for Al Ahli Saudi FC. The club stint though just lasted 3 months.

Right now, Oman is present in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Group 3 and in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Joint-Qualifiers round two. In the latter, they are second, holding 12 points. Leader Qatar is just one point ahead. The other nations that are present in the same group are Bangladesh, India and Afghanistan.
