Rangers Looking To Sign Milad Mohammadi

If you had been placing bets onkaszino about Iranian fullback Milad Mohammadi leaving his current club then you are in luck. Reports from Belgium suggest that the 27 year old is subject to a €7m bid from Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers.
There are also reports that claim Premier League’s newly promoted side Leeds United also harbor strong interest toward the Iran international.
Debut Season
Milad had broken into the scene of Iranian football back in 2014, after having an impressive debut season with Rah Ahan. The fullback is known for his incredible speed and his ability to play in a variety of positions.
Milad’s twin brother Mehrdad is also a member of the Iran national football team and currently plies his trade in Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit Desportivo Aves.
In the 2014/15 season, Iranian top division side Rah Ahan handed a five year contract to Milad. He made his debut for the senior team in the Iran Pro League that season against Esteghlal.
After the end of that season, the Tehran-born began to actively pursue a move to Europe. He attended trials with Sturm Graz and also received offers from other European clubs.
However, Rah Ahan was reluctant to let him go.
But, Milad continued to push for a move and in February 2016, he signed for Russian top division club Terek Grozny.
After putting pen on paper to a three year contract, Milad played his first match for Terek Grozny in their 3-2 victory over Anzhi Makhachkala.
Milad Mohammadi Grabs A Goal
The following year, he tasted his first professional goal as he found the net against Ural Yekaterinburg in a 5-2 victory for Terek Grozny.
After the conclusion of the 2016/17 season, he was declared to be one of the top U23 Asian talents to look out for. After running out his contract with Grozny, he joined Gent last summer.
The left-back got his first national team cap for Iran in 2015 when Carlos Queiroz called him up for a friendly tie against Uzbekistan.
Days later, he also made the bench in Iran’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Turkmenistan.
In 2018, he made the World Cup squad and traveled to Russia. Even though Iran couldn’t past the hurdles of the group stage, Mohammadi earned plaudits for his performances.
Till now, he has made 34 senior appearances for Team Melli.
Scottish Shores
The recent interest from Scottish shores is not the first time we have heard Scottish Premier League sides chasing the signature of the highly rated Iranian.
Back in 2018, the Scottish Sun reported Rangers and their arch rivals Celtic, were both in to tie down Mohammadi to a new contract.
That said, the reported €7m fee seems a bit hard to believe, given the abundance of options Rangers currently have in the fullbacks department.
Borna Barisic, who is Croatia’s first choice left back at the moment, is a Rangers player. He is a starter for Rangers as well and has exhibited no strong frailties which would prompt the club to look for an immediate replacement.
Conclusion
Will Rangers splash out a hefty fee for a player that would only be a back-up plan? Sounds quite unlikely!
Moreover, the club has already signed a substitute for Barisic. Calvin Bassey, who didn't get a shot at main team football in Premier League side Leicester City, was brought in summer to play second fiddle to the Croatian.
There’s still hope for your wager, if you are banking on the Gent defender to move on. Milad Mohammadi has shown that he can be a utility player and he can take on multiple positions on the pitch.
In his first full season in Belgian football, Mohammadi has done everything he needed to do to impress the scouts.
He made 24 appearances in the league, and also played three times for Gent in the Europa League. He picked up a goal and an assist, and also showed great defensive solidarity.
There could be more genuine interest from the Premier League for Mohammadi than Scottish football.
Leeds United would need to strengthen in several areas after securing their first promotion in 16 years. And one of their problem areas happens to be left back.
Stuart Dallas has been the go-to guy for Marcelo Bielsa in the Championship. But, the Leeds United boss would like to have more options to cover for the Northern Ireland international.
Games would come thick and fast in the Premier League and the lack of squad depth could hurt their ambitions profoundly.
