Iranian Star Ghoddos Heading to the Premier League
The Premier League is set to welcome a new Iranian international, with Saman Ghoddos helping Brentford secure promotion to England’s top flight.
Having impressed in the Championship with the Bees, Ghoddos looks more than ready to test himself at the highest level.
Ghoddos Helps End Brentford Wait
It has been a long road for the west London outfit to finally secure a place in the top tier of English football, and there has been some heartbreak on the way. Manager Thomas Frank and his side endured a day to forget at Wembley last season, as they were beaten in the Championship playoff final by Fulham.
With the playoff pressure back on their shoulders, the Bees managed to pass the test this time, as they secured a 2-0 victory over Swansea City. Ivan Toney and Emiliano Marcondes bagged the goals, in a game that saw Ghoddos come on as a second-half substitute. Brentford, who are 8/1 in the football betting to finish in the top half of the Premier League table next season, dominated the playoff final. Ghoddos got his moment in the sun at Wembley, as he helped see off the game against the Welsh side, and now the top flight awaits.
Ghoddos Part of Frank's Plans
With a contract up until the summer of 2023, with the option of a further year, it looks like Ghoddos will get his chance to shine in the Premier League. Brighton & Hove Albion winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh was previously the only Iranian player to ply his trade in England’s top league this season, but there is now speculation regarding his future with the Seagulls.
This will not be the first top-tier league Ghoddos has played in, having also featured for Ostersunds in Sweden and Amiens in France. However, this will be the biggest test of the 27-year-old’s career, as Brentford prepare to go up against the heavyweights of English football.
Bees Must Stick to Game Plan
Ghoddos has been part of a Brentford side that have been praised for their attractive style of football in the Championship. The talented midfielder, who has 22 caps for Iran, is part of the side that likes to play with the ball on the floor, and press hard when out of possession.
While some teams might take a more conservative approach when they go up to the Premier League, Brentford would do well to stick to their current philosophy. The Bees can take inspiration from Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United, who secured a ninth-place finish in their first campaign back in the Premier League for 16 years. An attacking and high-energy style of football served the Whites well this season, and Brentford can look to bring a similar brand of football next term.
Like Leeds, Brentford might well be a breath of fresh air to the Premier League, and Iran’s Ghoddos looks set to be a part of the most exciting time in the Bees 131-year history.
