What Does Over Under Mean In Football Betting

Football Betting

When it comes to betting, getting your head around all the slang and jargon can take a while. It can remain confusing for even veteran gamblers so for beginners it can understandably be a bit of a minefield. Football betting nowadays has such an extensive market that there are what seems like limitless choices.

No matter how evolving the football betting market is and how much the rules of football change over the years, there remains one thing that will always be at the forefront of any football game - goals. So why would you not bet on them? When it comes to betting on goals in football there are no better bets to be had than an overs/unders bet. These are simple yet highly effective, perfect for boosting odds whilst being a solid banker on an accumulator.

But just what does over/under mean in football betting and how do these bets work? Essentially, the 0.5 increments that these bets will go up in are the indicator of how many goals you think there is going to be in any given match. These increments of 0.5 go all the way up to the like of 6.5. An example of this would be placing a bet on a game having ‘over 1.5 goals’. This bet essentially means that you are betting on there being 2 or more goals in the game regardless of the actual scoreline. This means it could be anything from 1-1, 2-0, 2-1 and so on. However, if the game finished up 0-0 or only 1-0 you would lose this bet. With over/under betting you can bet on any incremental .5 amount of goals you would like. So if you think it is going to be a 6 goal thriller then the over 5.5 bet is for you.

In a similar vein to when you are creating an overs goals bet, unders bets follow exactly the same rules and principles. For example, if you bet under 2.5 goals, you are essentially betting that there is going to be less than two goals in the game. The 0.5 increments make sure that the bet is decisive one way or another.

These types of bets are class because they offer great flexibility. They tend to normally have good odds on them for what they are but are also on a good level of probability. This means they are the ideal bet to get bang for your buck and are even better to add to accumulators and multiple bets to boost your odds multiplier. Often goals flow thick and fast in Europe's top leagues and there are rarely 0-0 finishes. This means that these types of bets are good bankers. Not just that but they offer better odds than just picking an outright winner in a one sided affair.

Over/under betting is easy but a highly effective and safe way of getting some bang for your buck and beating those bookies.
