The World Cup - Iran's squad, group, and more

The highly controversial World Cup in Qatar is creeping closer and closer. Due to be held in November - December of this year, the critique against much of how the World Cup has been organized has been massive. Regardless of this, the tournament will take place and Iran will face tough opposition in the first game of the World Cup. 

Watching Iran play in international tournaments is one of the best things in the world for any Iranian football fan. Iran has a strong history of doing well in international tournaments and it’s not unusual for the squad to put out strong performances. Regardless of whether you would like to place a bet on the right world cup odds or just watch as a fan there is a lot to look forward to.

The group

Even if it’s still a couple of months until the first whistle is sounded and the tournament begins the groups have been decided. Iran is in a group with England, the USA, and Wales. The first game is due to be played against England, then Wales, and lastly the USA. This is one of the most exciting groups to bet on at the 2022 world cup.

The players

Iran has several high-caliber players that are going to present at the world cup. The most notable out of their players are naturally Sardar Azmoun and Mehdi Taremi, although several other players are now present

One of the more interesting players to watch is Swedish born Saman Ghoddos. After being approached by the federation he made a decision to start representing Iran from 2017 and forward. Currently in Brentford, Ghoddos acts as a smart player with a cunning eye for scoring goals and he will for sure be someone to watch extra closely in the 2022 world cup.

How will Iran do?

Iran will have a tough time making it out of the group and will need to put up strong performances against mainly Wales and the USA. England will more than likely take home the entire group, but since two teams from each group make it through to the knockout rounds, the chances of making it out of the group stage are good. 

The USA, eager to show that they’re slowly but surely making gains towards becoming a proper football nation. Many experts have the USA as the dark horse in this group and it’s highly likely that the game against the US is going to be the most important one in the group stage.
