Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Eboue responds to his poverty tag

Former Cote d'Ivoire and Arsenal star Emmanuel Eboue has shrugged off rumours of him being led to poverty following his divorce, claiming that he owns much property in several places including Ghana.

Back in 2017, the former right-back was reported to be in a legal battle with ex-wife Aurelie, where he got on the losing end and had to offer up some of his assets, and best online pokies Australia talked about the matter at the time.

The 37-year-old defender was then quoted by Sunday Mirror, where he dropped claims of being poor and homeless. That report circulated quickly. However, he returned to the media to explain that he was misunderstood.

Speaking to Citi Sports, the former Arsenal defender said: “When [people] say Emmanuel Eboue lost everything, it’s not nice.

“Because I had a divorce [case] and they [court] said my wife won, they gave her all my properties – my two houses, money and the cars that I had in England.
“I wasn’t worried about it because I expected that she was going to use it to take care of my children.

“When they [court] said that, I was very disappointed… To be honest, for the first time, I was very down but after that, I prayed and forgot about all of that.”

His divorce came during the time he was trying to reignite his football career following a one-year ban from the sport after failing to pay a former agent.

“After that [divorce case], I left and returned back to Africa. I have my own properties in Africa and so I live with that," the former player continued.

“When I hear people say Emmanuel Eboue lost everything, I laugh. I have properties in Ghana, I have properties in my home country [Ivory Coast].

“I live very comfortably and I thank God. So when people keep talking and say Emmanuel Eboue doesn’t have anything, he can’t eat, doesn’t have a place to stay, it’s not true."

Eboue put on the Arsenal jersey from 2004 to 2011 after parting ways with Belgian clubBeveren before moving on to join Turkish giants Galatasaray, who has some slot machines available for their players for entertainment.

He spent four seasons with the Turkish club before moving back to England to join Sunderland in 2016. His deal with the club was short-lived in one month as he was handed a one-year ban and had to stay clear from football.

He registered 79 appearances for Cote d'Ivoire at senior level, leading them to two World Cup tournaments in 2006 and 2010.
